Frequently Asked Questions

What is Horse Ring?

Horse Ring is a gathering of professional, equine-oriented web sites, all linked together into an endless loop.

What will Horse Ring do for my business?

Adding your site to Horse Ring will allow your potential customers, horse people, to find your site without weeding through the thousands of irrelevant sites that come up on the major search engines. This means that more people will find your site, which, if you offer a quality product or service, should mean more sales to your business.

Is it difficult to add my site to the ring? I'm not very technical...

No, adding your site is very simple. When you join, some code will be emailed to you. Copy this code from the email, and paste it into the bottom of your homepage. Right click on the Horse Ring logo at the top right of this page, then place the logo into your "images" folder on your server. When you've finished, email Horse Ring and let us know the code is there and we'll move your site into the ring!

How does a web ring work?

Through navigation links found at the bottom of member
pages, visitors can travel all or any of the sites in a Ring. They can move through a ring to the next site, list the next five sites in the ring, jump to a random site in the ring, or survey all the sites that make up the Ring. This allows web surfers to navigate many sites related to what they're searching for.

What's an "HTMLfragment" and what's it for?

The "HTMLfragment" is navigation code contained in the links (i.e., next site, next 5 sites, etc...) at the bottom of each site in the Ring. This code provides a means for the database to know which site the user is coming from, and where the user wants to go. When the user clicks on one of these links, the database is queried for the correct information. Then it sends the user to the URL of the next site in the Ring.

I've submitted my page to the Horse Ring and added the HTML fragment to my page. When I test the code, I get a message that my Site ID is not in the Ring. Why?

When you submit your site to Horse Ring, it goes into a database of sites called the Queue. Before your site can be fully functional on the ring, the Ring Manager needs to
approve your site. This error message appears until your site is approved. When the HTML fragment has been inserted, please email the Ring Manager to let us know that your site is ready to be approved.

There may be a number of sites ahead of you in the Queue and the Ring Manager goes through sites in order starting with those that were submitted first.

How long does it usually take to be approved?

This varies based on the time available to the Ring Manager and on the number of sites that are already in the Queue.
Please be Patient -it may take a day or two depending on workload.

The URL for my page has changed, but I still want to be a member of Horse Ring. How can I change my URL but keep the same Site ID?

This is done through the Members section of our website. Choose "Modify Site Information" and the rest should become clear. E-mail the Ring Manager if you have
any problem.
